NANA NANA NANA NANA NAH … THE BATMAN![20050921]

Okay, time to bring in the geek funk again.

One of my all time favorite comics related content is Batman: The Animated Series (hereto referred to as B:TAS. This show captured the many angles of the Dark Knight detective, with great storylines and beautiful animation.

There is a new Batman cartoon airing on Fox these days. It is called simply The Batman. I caught a couple of episodes. It simply doesn’t compare. Where the previous series took on the many sides of the legend, this Batman is simply gadget guy. Better to sell the toys.

But this really disturbs because B:TAS went a long way to removing the BIF-POW Mardi-gras image people had of Batman thanks to the 60s series starring Adam West.

Don’t get me wrong, I love that old series; my sweetheart even bought me the movie that kicked it off.

But it doesn’t present the great character that the hero has become in the modern, great tales. It was all about the crazy schemes, and the Bat-this and the Bat-that …

Which the new cartoon follows exactly. And the many, many garish colors.

About the only thing the new show had going for it is was a title song written by U2’s Edge. Listen to it here and find it here. Again, not as good as the B:TAS gothic piece, but it’s got an interesting weird vibe to it, especially with the Edge’s breathy punctuation at the end. Captures the night and mystery of the character.

So yesterday, I find out they had a new theme song. I find it here, or click here for a listen.

Wow. Does it ever blows goats. Sucks them hard. Like goat cum is going out of style.

Sorry. But with this change, we are back to the silly day-glo Bats. Bah!!!!
