In the days since the Convention, something I keep reflecting on is the portfolio review sessions I sat it on. My own personal opinion, and this in no way had an effect on the reviewer’s own assessments, is that most people don’t realise how bad (or good) their art is. In some cases, they really were completely disassociated from reality.
One horrible panel I kept coming back to had Superman walking in, saying “Hey guys. What’s up?” The art itself was not that bad - not good at all, but not awful either. What got me is that line of dialogue. Superman would never say that, its not the right “voice”. The writer-wannabe in me kept getting riled up …
Until I read Superman’s thought baloon in the last panel on this post.
Lesson learned; arrogance levels decreasing as are my excuses for not writing.
Now if you will excuse me, “I must kiss her again!”
