This isn’t Black and White[20050902]

Okay, enough right-bashing. Time to shine the light on idiocy on the left.

The meme is spreading on the racial aspect to the slow Katrina response:

Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., gestures during a news conference on Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 in Washington. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Black Leadership Forum, National Conference of State Legislators, National Urban League, and the NAACP were critical of the relief effort for victims of Hurricane Katrina. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci)AP - Black members of Congress expressed anger Friday at what they said was a slow federal response to Hurricane Katrina.

Like I said on YR’s blog, I believe there is a racial angle, though it is something that has always been part of the city, NOT something to do with the slow response. (Mind you, it’s interesting how Bushie decides to visit the Mississipe and Louisiana countryside before going to New Orleans … hmmm).

I think the Black Caucus are acting a bunch of fools politically. Instead of letting criticism mount against Bush naturally, they are going to bring it down to a “race issue” which can easily be argued against. The right-wing and the media will now make that the central story instead of the greater issue of lack of readiness and slow response. Basically, the caucus has just written a way out for Bush. Bad politcs.

And also what’s with this shit:

Watson and others also took issue with the word “refugee” being used to describe hurricane victims.

“‘Refugee’ calls up to mind people that come from different lands and have to be taken care of. These are American citizens,” Watson said.

Added Rep. Elijah Cummings (news, bio, voting record), D-Md.: “They are not refugees. I hate that word.”

Ah, I love hypocrisy in action.

<sarcasm>”Refugees” are people form a different land, so they should be treated worst then American citizens</sarcasm>.
