Bush and the Bitch[20050902]
It is a time of crisis in the US again. Katrina has come and gone 5 days ago … and still there has been no assistance FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Aid was already flying into the regions devastated by the tsunami by this time.
Now, the people the media have not taken to politicizing the fact that their administration, head of the world’s greatest superpower, is UNABLE to get its act together to save its citizens in the middle of its heartland. I am not surprised by this reluctance to hold Bush and his staff accountable for this; that sort of thing is always met with cries of being “unpatriotic” if you’re an American, or “you don’t understand” if your not. I am not surprised … but I think it is wrong.
Only now is the military coming in to restore law and order with permission to “shoot to kill”, approaching it, in their own words, as “urban warfare”. How could we have reached this state? Maybe it’s having most of your National Guard in Iraq, when they are suppose to be a LOCAL MILITIA ready to mobilize for these sort of events? Maybe it’s the fact that FEMA, who would normally take charge of these sort of things, has been stripped of most of its resources and authority to placed under the MINISTRY OF TRUTH Homeland Security? How about that price of oil? Maybe it’s Bush giving his oil buddies tax breaks and them choosing to pocket the money and their swelling profits instead of putting it to good use by upgrading and building oil refineries (something that would create new jobs and brought down the cost of oil)?
These are all decisions that are traced back to Bush.
Some of you have stopped reading at this point, thinking I am being an ass while people are dying. Maybe I am. Except (to take a page from Bushie’s playbook), on 9/11 terror came to our shores. We were not ready, and the President swore he would change the government so the next time this sort of thing happened we would be.
New Orleans shows we are not. Fine, it was not a terror attack. It was actually something EASIER. We had 24 hours NOTICE before it made landfall. Everyone was predicting this level of devastation. And yet, where is the aid?
What if it had been a dirty bomb? Or even simpler, what if terrorists had blown up New Orleans levies, producing exactly the same consequences?
This is what I mean about Bush failing to run a smarter war.
