I need guns. Lots of Guns[20050811]
I use RSS Bandit as my aggregator and w.bloggar as desktop blog tool.
What is wrong with that?
That’s right. Their both .NET, IE powered applications. Good applications. But still, I don’t like the idea of using them because of how much I loathe IE. I want something Mozilla/Firefox based.
I looked through the Firefox Extensions, and Sage caught my eye. I had tried it before, about 6 months back, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. I installed and …
It still isn’t what I want. I like the clean display. BUT … I want it to automatically update my feeds, notifying me that new items have arrived andhow many there are. I love that about RSS Bandit, and the facts that I configure the frequency of the update, how long to keep feed items.
So I remembered ranting about looking for a coding project, and I started messing around with XUL … when it dawns on me what I need to develop.
1.) My own aggregator. RSS interface, but totally done as a Firefox extension. I would also add the ability to source the feeds and configuration from a URL. Tired of mailing around an OPML, and don’t want to use BlogLines or Pluck just yet.
2.) A blogging tool. Not sure if it would be part of the aggregator or not. Would be cool to highlight blocks of pages and click, have it auto-generate into content for a blog entry. Something a bit more complex then the “blog this” functionality that others. So I am thinking another extension. First version coded for WordPress, but definitely will make it work with others. Or allow anyone else to do. Open sourcing it, of course.
Many of you are laughing by now, thinking I am wasting my time, am behind the current edge, and/or there are far better tools to use. But hey, I want to do this.
